What a transformation! This project was much needed but not on the top of our list until life threw a curve ball and I needed to create a place for my wife to enjoy the summer months. I almost canceled it due to a tight budget but with a little looking around and flexibility I was able to make it happen. First hurdle was the structural engineer but after sistering a in about 18 2x10x16's in place with the help of my friend Tom we were able to move forward. The next big hurdle was the floor material. I was set on a UV resistant thick rubber membrane but they were asking $18 to $26 a sq ft. 450 sq ft, no way. In the end I ended up using a 12x24" composite deck tile off Wayfair for closer to $6 per sq ft. These tile sit on top of my existing big box rubber membrane and allow water to drain underneath. Finally, Cedar is not cheep but the pergola is the focal point and it is not the place to cut cost. I bought the large pieces from a lumber yard and the smaller ones I got from a big box and pick through their inventory the day after a new delivery. As for the furniture, is it is not cheep but I found a company that sells at trade shows and during a pandemic (COVID-19) they found a way to make their margins while also giving me a great discount!
